Russell Kemp was born in New York City, the youngest of three children. Born into a fashion industry family, Russell’s love of fashion began at an early age.  As a young man he began working at his fathers company, Winchester Sportswear, sweeping floors, packing boxes, and keeping fabric samples in order.   His creativity and talent led him to the design aspect of the business. Russell began to design and sew fashions at home for various fashion benefit and charity events in his community.

Upon graduating high school Russell branched out and began designing full time, for the trendy junior market with several different companies.  Two years later he joined another company and proved a great success with “Addiction” by Russell Kemp.   

Building on his knowledge and experience from the junior and other market segments, Russell launched his own line “Russell Kemp NY” in 1995

The Russell Kemp line features novelty fashions for Missy and Plus Size Women.  The labels are sold to various Dept Stores, Catalogs and Specialty Retailers.   In the late nineties, Russell premiered his line on the Home Shopping Network which was a tremendous success.   He was then selected for the designer collection spotlight on QVC.

Russell Kemp’s line offers fashions with an edge, where ladies can wear a piece from his collection for several seasons or mix and match with styles from seasons past.  His key emphasis is always on color, novelty, and value. Russell believes all women still like to get dressed up and love to do it with flair!

Over the years Russell has created a niche in the Plus Size Woman’s Appparel Market. His inspiration for designing plus size clothing comes from growing up in a family of plus size women.  His mother and sisters looked to him for flair and better styling for the plus size woman. He didn’t disappoint them, or the countless women who wear his label today.
